Sustainable Solutions

for the Coexistence

of Wildlife and People _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Our project work

... deals with the coexistence of wild animals and humans and the protection of ecosystems, especially forests. This topic is at the core of all our foundation work. It is committed to protecting the remaining global primeval forests, especially the tropical and temperate rainforests, for indigenous peoples and local village communities in these forest regions and for the preservation of their land rights and cultural identity. Above all, however, we support local projects for species protection. We promote and advise local communities on projects to protect their forests, for communal forest use, community-based nature conservation, sustainable wildlife-friendly forestry, for global networking and for the general improvement of living conditions in the villages.

The foundation has 2 projects:

Wildlife and People Coexistence Network

We work on developing solutions and transferable models for the sustainable coexistence of people, wild animals and ecosystems, support and advise on the development and implementation of community-based nature conservation projects by the local population and promote nature and species conservation projects and projects for education and humanitarian aid, especially by small local NGOs. We see improving the living conditions of people in our project regions as an important prerequisite for the implementation of successful nature conservation measures. In our work, we use wild animals as indicators for the state of ecosystems and to assess the implementation of nature conservation measures. If possible, our focus is primarily on big cats and elephants, as they are probably most frequently involved in conflicts with people where they occur. We are currently working and promoting mainly in some forest regions of Africa, Southeast Asia and Central Europe.

Rainforest Center Darmstadt

The aim of the Rainforest Center is to bring global rainforest issues to the Darmstadt region, to inspire people about rainforests and to motivate them to protect them. The Rainforest Center organizes events and exhibitions on rainforests and other global forest issues, indigenous forest peoples, species protection projects, the connections between forest and climate protection, and promotes rainforest protection projects worldwide. The Rainforest Center is the basis of our work in Germany.
